Freedom School of Ministry is a two year course, covering Holy Spirit,Church Planting & Leadership, Pastoral Epistles & Spiritual Warfare. The course is designed to prepare students for ministry and leadership and includes Worship, Small Groups, Activations and bonus topics offered in Chapel Time.
Freedom School of Ministry is based in Tauranga, New Zealand. In 2026, we are introducing an in-person learning experience in Christchurch, where students will gather every Tuesday evening. Classes will be streamed live from Tauranga, while the rest of the nights programme will run in person. Therefore those based in Tauranga and Christchurch will be considered in person students.
Individuals residing outside of Tauranga or Christchurch will register as an online student.
Year One is designed to root students in identity, spiritual sensitivity, and foundational ministry skills. It’s a season of discovery, establishing a firm platform from which to grow.
This subject is all about getting to know the Holy Spirit in a deeper way. To experience the fullness of God's presence with us, in us and upon us. This subject is aimed to equip you to walk in the Spirit and point you into the direction of your own face to face encounter with God's power from on high.
This is an exciting subject with one goal: to prepare you to plant a church and become a leader - however that looks in your world. Whether you lead a church, or are part of a team, this subject will give you a great intro to how we plant churches at Freedom Centre.
Year Two is about deepening authority, strategic assignment, and equipping you to lead in your calling. This year aims to transition you from learner to minister, from participant to initiator. In Year Two we challenge students to grow in their leadership capacity and equip them to release them as revivalists.
In this subject we dive deep into the book of 1st and 2nd Timothy, as well as the book of Titus. In this we explore the challenges that Timothy faced in his pastoral ministry and look into Paul's instructions to Timothy that helped him to be an effective leader.
There is a war going on in the Spirit, but the good news is it has already been won by Christ Jesus! Angels, demons, all the different levels of Heaven are all explored. You will learn how to walk in the authority you have as sons and daughters, taking territory back off the enemy everywhere you go.
Small groups will be held biweekly, consisting of Year 1 students being led by Year 2 students. We've established these groups within FSM to ensure that every student feels supported and connected throughout the year. Our goal is for these sessions to foster pastoral care, prayer, practical support, encouragement, and accountability.
Students are required to serve a minimum of three hours per week at Freedom Centre (or a local church/ministry).
There are many ways to serve at Freedom Centre such as:
Freedom Kids, Freedom Youth, Welcome Team, Hospitality, Production Team, Media Team, A Team (set-up/pack down), Worship Team, Connect, Livestream and more.
No matter where you are on the journey, Freedom School of Ministry can help prepare you for your calling.
